2022 Ornament - Fireworks Frenzy
This year’s ornament features an image captured during our first ever ‘Fireworks Frenzy’ event in Apex, held July 3, 2022. Thousands gathered at Hunter Street Park for a night filled with community spirit and national pride. Also pictured is a much-loved and often photographed landmark in Apex - the Hunter Street water tower. New lighting technology was added to the tower in 2022, giving us another way to light up the peak with red, white, and blue!
2021 Ornament - Apex Service Memorial
Commemorating the 20th anniversary of 9/11, the 2021 town ornament depicts the Apex Service Memorial. The design of the memorial began with a 6-inch cube of metal beam recovered from the rubble of the World Trade Center’s South Tower. The steel cube, symbolic of the destruction our nation faced in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, rests atop a 5-foot granite monument. Written tributes adorn each of the four sides of the monument. Paths made from engraved bricks radiate out from the center of the monument, forming the foundation of this space. A brick seating wall allows visitors to rest and reflect, while a 10-foot town clock reminds us all to take time to remember.
2020 Ornament - Apex Christmas Parade
In a year that we have to press pause on many traditions... the 2020 Apex Ornament brings you a snapshot in time when we could celebrate the spirit of the holidays together. Our parade has kicked off the holiday season each year for the past few decades. Apex’s parade is unique, as one of only a few in the area held at night. We look forward to the years to come, when once again spectators will line the sidewalks, wave at passing antique cars, delight at the bright lights twinkling through downtown Apex, and enjoy the sights and sounds of local marching bands, dance companies, cheer squads, martial arts schools, jump rope teams, and more!
2019 Ornament - Downtown Apex
This year’s ornament features a snowy morning in downtown Apex. Historic downtown Apex formed around the turn of the 20th century. In 1911, many of the 100 block buildings, then constructed of old wood frame, were destroyed in a fire. By 1913, many buildings were rebuilt using pressed brick, giving downtown Apex the character it showcases today.
2018 Ornament - The Halle
The 2018 ornament features the Halle Cultural Arts Center, which celebrated the 10th anniversary of its grand reopening in 2008. The Halle was built in 1912 in the heart of the downtown Historic District, and served as Apex’s very first Town Hall. It is currently a modern facility that hosts exhibitions, musicals, dances, plays, receptions, meetings, fundraisers, and other celebrations.
