Indigenous Peoples' Day is a holiday that honors and celebrates the histories and cultures of indigenous peoples in the United States. It is celebrated on the second Monday of October.

This year’s celebration features:

  • Flute and drum circle performances
  • Dances
  • Food vendors - Little Blue Bakehouse and traditional homecoming foods
  • Deer hide painting craft
  • Photo backdrop for guests

Schedule of Events

  • 6:00 pm: Kick off and introductions
  • Overview of Indigenous Peoples' Day and the Triangle Native American Society
  • Reading of Proclamation by Mayor and Town Council members
  • Police Chief remarks and introduction of Emcee, JD Freeman
  • Performances begin:
    • Flute
    • Drum circle
    • Dance
    • Storytelling
    • Friendship Dance

Know Before You Go: 

  • In the case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled. Any weather-related information will be posted here.
  • Parking and restrooms are available near the amphitheatre.
  • Attendees are encouraged to bring folding / camping chairs.
  • Town staff may be on site during the festival taking photos/video of festival events and attendees



What is the difference between a Community Event and a Town-Organized Event?


Community Events 
This is an event that a non-profit organization runs, pays for, and plans. Town of Apex staff provides an event location (Town Hall Campus, Salem Street, etc.), along with staff from public safety, public works and other departments, as necessary.

Town-Organized Events
This is an event that the Town of Apex creates, pays for, and plans. Town of Apex staff manages the programming, including activities, logistics, and vendors. This is sometimes referred to as a “Town Owned Event”.
