Labor Day Holiday Notice - GoApex Route 1 and GoApex Door to Door

GoApex Route 1 and GoApex Door to Door will not operate on Monday, September 4th due to the Labor Day holiday.

Pardon our Paint - GoApex Bus Stop Sidewalk Art Project Installation begins soon

From August through October, local and North Carolina-based artists will be painting art installations on the pavement at select GoApex bus stops as part of the GoApex Bus Stop Sidewalk Art Project.

This project aims to enhance the pedestrian experience at bus stops, build awareness for the GoApex Route 1 service, and provide an opportunity for public art in Town.

Artists were selected through an open Call for Artists in Spring 2023, which drew more entries than available art installation bus stops. There may be minor impacts to some bus stops during installation.

Rider information during installation:

Where paved areas are closed for installation, please respect the coned-off areas and follow alternate pedestrian routes. Please not touch or walk on the art until the cones have been removed.
In some cases, the bus stop boarding and deboarding areas may be shifted during installation. In those cases, please look for the temporary bus stop signage and a round sidewalk sticker indicating the temporary waiting location.

GoTriangle Route 305 - Minor Routing Updates in Downtown Raleigh beginning Monday, August 7th, 2023

Beginning Monday, August 7^th, 2023, Route 305’s routing in downtown Raleigh will shift slightly.

The Route will no longer serve the following bus stops in Downtown Raleigh:

Stop #1952, McDowell St at Lenoir St, Northbound
Stop #8343, McDowell St at Martin St, Northbound
Stop #1734, Wilmington St at Hargett St, Northbound (Former layover stop)

The Route will now begin to serve the following new stops in Downtown Raleigh:

Stop #8908, Wilmington St at Davie St, Northbound
Stop #8002, Wilmington St. at Morgan St, Northbound (New layover stop)

No stops in Apex will be affected. The schedule will remain the same as it is currently.

Update on Regional Real-time Transit Information Services

Changes to bus arrival info as of July 1, 2023:

GoApex bus riders can no longer access bus arrival estimates via text/SMS using the Golive texting system.
Transloc (mobile application) will still show bus routes but will no longer receive system updates, possibly resulting in poor application performance.

How you can find bus arrival info now:

Download the free UMO Mobility app (see download instructions) provided by GoTriangle, which now offers most regional transit services with real-time transit information (Apple App Store) (Google Play Store)
View GoApex Route 1 fixed route schedule
Contact the Regional Transit Information Center at (919) 485-RIDE (7433). The center is open daily from 6 am to 9 pm, except certain holidays.

2023 Detours

Upcoming Detour - Fireworks Frenzy, July 3rd

Due to road closures on Hunter Street during the Fireworks Frenzy event on Monday, July 3rd, GoApex Route 1 will not serve Stop #16000, Hunter Street at Apex Town Hall Campus, after 3:00pm. The bus will instead will travel directly from N. Mason St. to Laura Duncan Rd., beginning and ending it's trips at Stop #16003, Laura Duncan Rd at Old Raleigh Rd (Northbound). NOTE: The last trip of the evening will leave from Stop #16003 at 9:11pm.

Upcoming Detours - Pride Festival, Saturday June 10th, and Juneteenth Festival, Saturday, June 17th

Due to road closures on the Town Hall Campus during the Pride Festival on Saturday, June 10th, GoApex Route 1 will not serve Stop #16000, Hunter Street at Apex Town Hall Campus, and instead will travel directly from N. Mason St. to Laura Duncan Rd., laying over at Stop #16003, Laura Duncan Rd at Old Raleigh Rd (Northbound).

Due to road closures during the Juneteenth Festival in Downtown Apex on Saturday, June 17th, GoApex Route 1 will not be able to serve N. Salem St in downtown Apex. Instead, the bus will follow a detour routing with temporary stops along Elm St. Detour information is below:

Coming from E. Williams St., after serving stop #16085 at E Williams St. at S. Mason St./Apex Middle School, the bus will turn right on S. Hughes St.
The bus will then turn left onto E. Moore St., then Right onto S. Elm St. It will serve two temporary stops, one at the corner of Elm and Chatham St., and one at the corner of Elm and Center St.
It will then turn right onto Center St., and back to it's regular routing.
The following bus stops will be closed during the detour:
- Stop #16087, S. Salem St. at Williams St. (northbound)
- Stop #16089, N. Salem St. at Moore St. (northbound)
- Stop #16091, N. Salem St. at the Depot (northbound)

Please keep in mind that during detour events, the bus schedule may be disrupted. We ask for your patience and understanding as the bus operator works to provide safe service during this time.

Draft Bus Stop Improvement Policy out for Public Comment

Apex Town staff, in coordination with the Apex Transit Advisory Committee, have drafted a GoApex Bus Stop Improvement Policy to help guide future improvements to bus stops. Please review and provide your comments by June 5th, 2023.

The draft policy document establishes Standard Bus Stop improvements, and Enhanced Bus Stop improvements. Under the proposed policy, all GoApex stops would qualify for Standard Bus Stop improvements, while all stops would be subject to qualification and prioritization to receive Enhanced Bus Stop Improvements. Other types of improvements, such as road treatments like bus pullouts, new sidewalks or bike paths, and other infrastructure changes to increase accessibility to and from stops, would be considered on a case-by-case basis.

FAQ’s

Why establish a GoApex Bus Stop Improvement Policy?

We are always looking to improve quality of life in Apex, but we are also mindful of costs. We want to ensure there is a transparent process for installing bus stop improvements that uses a holistic review process, and would be able to stay within a budget.
The Town has applied for a Wake Transit Community Funding Area grant to help pay for additional amenities at bus stops. The Town will know by July 1^st if the grant is awarded. This policy will guide what stops and improvements would be selected for installation.

How was the policy developed?

The policy was developed by Town staff, in coordination with the Town’s Transit Advisory Committee.

How would stops qualify for Enhanced Bus Stop improvements?

Per the proposed policy, bus stops would be evaluated for qualification by staff on a yearly basis for the following factors: ridership (estimated boardings at the stop), nearby land uses, stop function (including if it is a transfer point, layover point, or park-and-ride location), presence of transit-reliant populations, presence of historically underserved populations, site context, and community requests. Points would be awarded for each stop. A detailed methodology is under development by Staff to allow for a standard evaluation process each year.

How would qualifying stops then be prioritized for Enhanced Bus Stop Improvements?

Stops would be evaluated on their qualification factors, and also on the feasibility of installation. Improvements would then be installed in order of highest priority first, to lower priority, until the available funding has been allocated for the year.

How are other types of bus stop improvements considered?

Other types of improvements will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Also, some deviations from this policy may be considered if special funding opportunities affect a site, or in light of long-range plans for an area.

Why not go ahead and put the enhanced improvements at every stop?

The main reason is cost. A bench costs about one-tenth as much as a shelter to purchase and install, for example.
A secondary reason is space. Some stops have constraints in the amount of right-of-way or space available to place shelters, which lowers the feasibility of installing them. Going through an evaluation process helps us understand those challenges better.
A third reason is maintenance needs. Trash receptacles require regular maintenance and emptying, for example, and so it is is worth determining the need and feasibility of installing them.

2022 Updates

Christmas Eve Holiday Notice - GoApex Route 1 and GoApex Door to Door

GoApex Route 1 and GoApex Door to Door will not operate on Saturday, December 24th due to the Christmas Eve holiday.

Regional Transit Information Center Outage - Thursday, December 15th

Due to unforeseen maintenance, the GoTransit Regional Information Center phone system, 919-485-RIDE (7433), is experiencing technical difficulties, and will be down from approximately 11:30am to 1:30pm, today, Thursday, December 15th, 2022. During the maintenance period, The GoTriangle Regional Information center can be reached via email at customerservice@gotriangle.org. To track your bus, please visit https://triangle.transloc.com/. Detour Notice - Apex Christmas Parade, Saturday, December 3rd

GoApex Route 1 will need to detour in the downtown area due to road closures for the Apex Christmas parade from about 3pm to about 9pm on Saturday, December 3rd. Click here for the detour map. Temporary stops will be located on Chatham Street and N Mason Street to reach the downtown area.

Thanksgiving Holiday Notice - GoApex Route 1 and GoApex Door to Door

GoApex Route 1 and GoApex Door to Door will not operate on Thursday, November 28th due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The services will operate on a normal schedule on Friday, November 29th, and Saturday, November 30th.

Bus Stop Closure Notice - North Mason Street near Apex Community Center

Beginning Monday, November 28th, 2022, Stop #1452, North Mason Street at Old Mill Village Drive, northbound (across the street from the Town Community Center) will be closed due to a construction project. A temporary stop will be added (#16003) at Laura Duncan Rd at Old Raleigh Rd, about a block north. Stop #1452 will be closed until the construction project is complete.

Bus Stop Installation Update, November 2022

Benches and trash cans have just arrived for installation at select bus stops! Click here for a list of locations receiving benches and/or trash cans. Bike racks were already installed at select bus stops last month.

GoTriangle Route 305 - New Schedule starting Monday, August 8th

GoTriangle Route 305: Holly Springs-Apex to Raleigh will have an updated schedule starting August 8th. This route operates between Holly Springs, Apex, NC State, and Downtown Raleigh during weekday commute hours. The updated schedule adds two trips to the route funded by the Wake Transit Plan, pushes back start of service to 6:34am, and removes morning arrivals and evening departures in Holly Springs. GoApex Route 1 started service on Saturday, July 30th, 2022. The Town is looking forward to offering this new, free service to the community, and we hope you will hop on board!

Bus Stop Installation Project, Spring 2022

Beginning this Spring, the Town of Apex will construct bus stops for our new transit service, GoApex Route 1. Route 1 is the Town's first local, free bus service, starting July 30, 2022. Installation at each stop includes, at the minimum, a bus stop sign and a level concrete pad for boarding and alighting the bus. Some stops may also receive a bench, trash can, bike racks, light fixtures, pavement markings, or additional concrete or sidewalk improvements.

Update: Concrete work is nearing completion! Installation of stop amenities (benches, trash cans, and bike racks) will be delayed until after service starts. Deliveries are now expected in late September.

GoApex Informational Pop-Up Events - Coming Soon

Bus Stop Sidewalk Art Project - Public Survey Open

The Town of Apex is planning to bring sidewalk art to twelve new GoApex bus stops in Spring 2023. We'd like to know what you want to see, as well as any thoughts or concerns you may have about the project.

The Town plans to issue a Call for Artists in Fall 2022 with installation in Spring 2023. A selection committee made up of members of the Town of Apex’s Transit Advisory Committee, Public Art Committee, and Town Staff (Planning, Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources, and Public Works) will review and select the artists based on the survey results and applications received.
