Pollution Prevention & Good Housekeeping

Minimum Control Measure (MCM) 6

The sixth MCM is an Operation and Maintenance (O&M) program with the ultimate goal of preventing or reducing pollutant runoff from municipal operations.

All Town field staff is trained on a regular basis and each municipal facility is inspected annually to document and correct any potential adverse effects to the stormwater system.

Street Sweeping Program

A street sweeping program was implemented in Apex in 2013 with a goal of improving the overall appearance and functionality of Apex roadways and drainage systems. The Town contracts out the sweeping service as a cost effective method of removing potential stormwater pollutants that would otherwise eventually end up in the stormwater system and ultimately in Apex waterways.

Good Housekeeping Principles

As a homeowner, you can apply stormwater pollution prevention and good housekeeping principles around your house. Household Hazardous Waste is a prime example of a stormwater pollution prevention issue that may apply at home.
