Olive Chapel Road, between Ashley Downs Drive and Patterson Grove Road, is closed due to a large sinkhole that formed after heavy rainfall on August 6th. The sidewalk in this area is also closed to pedestrians. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is on-site to look at the ground conditions and evaluate the safety of the area. Cause: A significant sinkhole formed due to flooding from Beaver Creek, causing the road to washout.
Duration: NCDOT maintains the road and is managing the detour and repairs. Check this page for more information on the estimated repair timeframe.
Detour: Drivers are advised to avoid the area and follow the detour signage located at Kelly Road and at Apex Peakway. Unless your home or destination is located between Apex Peakway and Kelly Road, please detour around the area.
