Electric Heat Pump & Water Heater Rebate Program
Purpose
Does your older heating system or water heater need to be replaced? Are you interested in upgrading your existing units to a more energy efficient model? Do you like saving money and helping the environment? If so, the Town of Apex can help!
The town offers two rebate programs to assist customers in upgrading their heating systems and water heaters. Upgrading older appliances is a wise choice for your home, for your pocket book, and the environment.
Why are we doing this? This is a way the town can give back to its citizens/customers and promote ecological and economic uses of electricity in a way that lowers our demand costs. Our goal is to offer the best possible rates, relationships, and reliability to all of our customers all day every day.
To schedule an appointment for an electric heat pump and/or electric water heater rebate, fill out the online form and a technician will call you within three business days.
Participation Agreement
By receiving the rebate, the customer agrees to participate in the Load Management Program for a minimum of 5 years.
Eligibility
Offer only available to Town of Apex Electric residential customers. Program may be amended or terminated at any time at the discretion of the town.
Electric Heat Pump Program (Electric Heat Strips)
- $300 rebate available for new all electric heat pumps with electric heat strips
- Available for new electric heat pump with electric heat strip installations
- Also available for replacement of older, less-efficient heat pumps, gas furnaces and oil furnaces when a new electric heat pump with electric heat strips is installed
- Unit must have load management switch installed with at least 25% control on the air conditioning cycle and electric heat strip control
- The owner or the owner’s contractor shall install the load management device in accordance with the town’s specifications.
- Building permits for repairs and renovations to residential construction of less than $10,000. are not required to have a load management device installed on the home and therefore will not be eligible for the rebate.
- Dual fuel systems do not qualify
- Heat Pump must be all electric to qualify
- Natural gas and propane fueled heating does not qualify
Electric Water Heater Program
- $100 rebate available for new all electric water heaters
- Available for installation of new electric water heater units
- Available for replacement of older gas or electric water heaters when a new electric water heater is installed
- Unit must have a load management switch installed
- The owner or the owner’s contractor shall install the load management device in accordance with the town’s specifications.
- Building permits for repairs and renovations to residential construction of less than $10,000. are not required to have a load management device installed on the home and therefore will not be eligible for the rebate.
- Unit must be a quick recovery design with a minimum 40 gallon capacity
- Tank-less hot water heaters do not qualify
- Gas hot water heaters do not qualify
- Hybrid electric hot water heaters do not qualify
Receiving Your Check
Once our technician has inspected the switch and verified your application, your check will be mailed in approximately six to eight weeks.
