Resources for Housing Crisis and Homelessness

Resources are available to assist residents experiencing an emergency or unstable housing situation. Below is a list of available services and contact information. We recommended calling the location before you go to make sure there have been no service or schedule changes. 

If you are homeless or will become homeless in the next 14 days and need emergency shelter, start with a Coordinated Entry Assessment visit to an access site.

Access of Care Network
Special resources are available for individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS in the Wake, Franklin, and Johnston County. Individuals can contact Access of Care Network or for confidential assistance.

Service Centers

You can get help ranging from a place to stay for the night to a meal for your family. Go to the closest service center to get help. If you are a veteran or a young person up to age 24, specialized services are offered at the sites below:

NeighborUp provides assistance to area residents through financial assistance, food pantry, scholarships, training programs, referrals, a mobile health clinic, employment assistance, and an affordable thrift shop.

Veterans only

The Wake County Veterans Services Office assists eligible veterans, their dependents and/or surviving spouses, children of deceased veterans, members of the Reserves or National Guard and active-duty service members in applying for benefits and services from the Department of Veterans Affairs and North Carolina Department of Military & Veterans Affairs.

The Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center, located at 508 Fulton St. Durham, NC 27705, works to improve the health of the men and women who have served our nation. Services are available to Veterans living in a 27-county area of central and eastern North Carolina, which includes Wake County.

Youth up to 24

Haven House Services is the place where youth who need help find it. Haven House programs help more than 1200 youth aged 6-24 each year overcome challenges and find a path to success.

Individuals and Families

Oak City Cares is a hub for connecting individuals and families, who are at risk of, or are experiencing homelessness, to coordinated services that create a path to stable housing and renewed hope. The Oak City Cares team coordinates services offered by human service professionals, medical providers, and other specialists from multiple partners at one location.

Regional Centers bring county services to residents in outlying communities. Many residents and workers in South Raleigh, Apex, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Holly Springs and Willow Spring visit the Southern Regional Center to learn about and access a variety of services in one convenient location. The regional center also works closely with community partners to connect residents to the services those organizations offer. Local residents participate in a Community Advocacy Committee to make sure services available at this location match community needs.
