Apex is a Bee City USA!
In September 2020, the Town of Apex joined only 19 other North Carolina municipalities in receiving Bee City USA status. The Bee City USA program endorses a set of commitments, defined in a resolution, for creating sustainable habitats for native pollinators, which are vital to feeding the planet.

Native Pollinator Garden at Apex Nature Park
The Pollinator Garden at Apex Nature Park is a sanctuary for bees, butterflies and other pollinators. It provides water sources, food, and habitat through a variety of native pollinator-friendly plants. Take a stroll through the garden and learn more about pollinators, the important role they play in the ecosystem, and how YOU can support them!
We couldn’t do it alone – thank you to the Apex Youth Council for adopting the garden and keeping it planted, watered, and maintained! Thank you to Apex High School’s carpentry class for building the garden shed, Eagle Scout Jack Frigo for creating the bee hotel, and Girl Scout Troop 4076 for the plant signage and bird houses. All plants are sources from Rachel’s Native Plants in Pittsboro, NC.
Pollinator Habitat Program
The Town of Apex has created a Pollinator Habitat Certification Program to teach, encourage, support and recognize efforts of those in our Town who are creating or improving pollinator habitats. Please fill out the application here to the best of your knowledge to apply. All certified habitats should have native pollinator friendly trees, shrubs, vines, and wildflowers. They should also include at least one water source and shelter for overwintering and nesting pollinators.
Accepted applications will receive a printed certificate designating the submitted property as a Pollinator Habitat. Applicants will have the option to purchase a sign for their property designating the area as a Pollinator Habitat. Please ensure that you abide by any HOA rules and regulations when creating your habitat.
Check out the Pollinator Pit Stop virtual tour to see other certified habitats and draw inspiration for your own space!
Mayor's Monarch Pledge
The Town of Apex is a growing area located in Wake County, North Carolina. The Town is located in the piedmont region of North Carolina and serves as a critical waypoint for the eastern Monarch migration. Mayor Jacques K. Gilbert and Apex Town Council are committed to saving the monarch butterfly and other pollinators with their renewal of the Mayor's Monarch Pledge and look forward to engaging with Apex residents to continue to increase pollinator habitat throughout the Town.
